Vietnam – Laos Customs shared experience on anti-smuggling of wild animals

At the working session, the Deputy Director General of Vietnam Customs Mai Xuan Thanh warmly welcomed the Lao Customs delegation to visit and work with Vietnam Customs at the General Department of Vietnam Customs to discuss, exchange experiences and share information on preventing the smuggling of wildlife.

Deputy General Director Mai Xuan Thanh said recently, Vietnam - Laos Customs had good cooperation in anti-smuggling. Vietnam Customs always received active cooperation and information from Laos Customs. Recently, the two Customs authorities of the two countries have always exchanged and cooperated closely in the fight against smuggling. Vietnam Customs has supported Laos Customs to hold many training courses related to anti-smuggling.

In the prevention and combat of smuggling and trade fraud, Vietnam always paid special attention to the implementation. The crime of smuggling and illegal transport of goods has been become more sophisticated and complicated. Recoginsing this threat, over the past time, Vietnam Customs has been proactive and worked with many Customs authorities in other countries to exchange information as well as plans and suggest solutions to implement the struggling measures. Vietnam Customs has been willing to share experience and help Laos Customs not only in professional operation aspects but also willing to share valuable experience that Vietnam Customs has gained in control and supervision of goods in general and preventing transportation of wildlife in particular.

Speaking at the meeting, Somphet Sivongxay, Deputy Director of Lao Customs Department sincerely thanked the Vietnamese Customs for the warm welcome. He expressed his wish to be learn from the experience of Vietnam Customs in general and especially in the field of anti-smuggling in particular.

Sivongxay said he believed that with his long experience, Vietnam Customs would assist Laos Customs in carrying out its duties in the fight against smuggling in general and against illegal transportation and trafficking of wildlife in particular.
