Director General of Vietnam Customs Nguyen Van Can had bilateral negotiations with Deputy Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection

VCN – Outside the 133th/134th meetings of the annual conference of Customs cooperation coucil (World Customs Organisation – WCO) held from 27 to 29 June 2019 at the headquarters of the WCO in Brussels, Belgium, on June 28, Director General of Vietnam Customs Nguyen Van Can had a bilateral negotiation with Deputy Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.  

At the meeting, the two parties informed each other on the completion of internal procedures for the preparation of the signing of the Government-level Agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in the customs field at the meeting of the senior leaders of the two countries in the future.

By implementing this Agreement, the two parties agreed to focus on the same concern contents such as: exchanging intelligence and sharing customs data; strengthen cooperation in the field of customs enforcement; fight against transnational crimes, anti-smuggling and trade fraud, with a focus on combating illegal transshipment and orgin fraud in order to promote lawful trade facilitation; strengthen the capacity of customs officials in professional fields.

In particular, with the experience of successfully implementing the national single window of the United States, US Customs was willing to share experiences so that Vietnam can refer to the application. The two parties agreed to actively prepare for effective implementation after the signing of the Agreement.
