Customs seizes 37 drug-related crimes in the first quarter of 2024

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first quarter of 2024, the illegal production and transportation of drugs from abroad into Vietnam and then shipping to third countries for consumption has made Vietnam become a new transit place.
In addition, the import of precursors also poses a potential risk of being used to illegally manufacture drugs.
In the first quarter of 2024 (from December 16, 2023 - March 15, 2024), the Customs industry presided and coordinated with the Police, Border Guard, and Coast Guard to tackle 92 cases and arrest 87 suspects.
The Customs seized 17.43kg of marijuana; 21.4 kg of heroin; 43.12 kg of ketamine and 900 ketamine tablets; 188.6 kg and 3 tablets of synthetic drugs; 4.62 grams and 220 other drug pills.
On March 30, 2024, at Km 73+400 National Highway 9 in Lang Vay village, Tan Long commune, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province, the Anti-Drug Enforcement Team under Quang Tri Customs Department to coordinated with Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard and Police to bust a ring transporting drugs from Laos to Vietnam.
The enforcement forces arrested nine suspects, residing in Pakading district, Borikhamxay province, Laos for illegally transporting 100 kg of meth.
Notably, all of the drugs were hidden by the smugglers on the ceiling of a passenger car with the Lao license plate 6689 entering the country from Laos.
