Although import and export turnover increased, the revenue from special consumption tax and import tax only grew about VND 1,490 billion year-on-year due to tariff cuts under FTA commitments

The leader of the Import and Export Duty Division said the VAT policy will not be revised in 2021, so the import turnover increases, and revenue from VAT will rise about VND4,700 billion compared to the same period in 2020.

HCM City Customs Department said as of April 30, the department collected VND39,000 billion, meeting more than 36% of the target, up nearly 36% year on year because the Covid-19 pandemic was under control, the business community adapted to the new normal conditions, and the dual goals were well done.

HCM City Customs Department assigned the revenue targets to 11 customs branches and post-clearance audit customs branches, striving to increase 5% of the assigned estimate.

The department has focused on creating favorable conditions, attracting import-export enterprises while enhancing the efficiency in performing six key customs operations, improving the effectiveness of State management, ensuring sufficient tax revenue collection, collecting revenue and reducing tax debt in en effective manner.

However, the pandemic situation in the world and in the country is complex, so the HCM City Customs Department has issued a plan for Covid-19 prevention and control with many solutions to both prevent the disease while ensuring customs management, customs clearance in a timely fashion and increasing revenue for the State budget.

Sixty-eight firms importing goods for prevention and control of Covid-19 are exempted from import tax by HCM City Customs Department with a total amount of over VND 24 billion in 2020. Nine firms are exempted from tax with a total amount of more than VND5 billion in 2021.
