Hai Phong Customs: 10% of revenue comes from import tariffs on automobiles

According to Hai Phong Customs Department, by the end of August, the total import-export turnover for completed procedures at the unit reached nearly $US 43.4 billion, increased by 15.9% over the same period in 2017.
Notably, the import tax turnover only reached nearly $US 11 billion, increased slightly by 0.4% over the same period last year.
In that, the imported goods items with high tax rates have significant turnover increases, such as petroleum increased by 10.3%, motorcycle increased by 34.6% and alcohol increased by 25.7% ...
However, some major sources of revenue fell sharply, such as automobiles decreased by 24.4%, automobile parts and accessories reduced by 24%, and machinery and equipment decreased by 3.4% ...
Turnover of imported goods with tax increased negligibly, while tax rate fell sharply, resulting in decreased budget revenue collected by Hai Phong Customs of 9.8% over the same period last year. By the end of August, the total revenue of the Hai Phong Customs Department achieved 32,519 billion VND, equaling 65.5% of the assigned appropriation, but decreasing by 9.8% over the same period last year.
Particularly, the automobile tax amount decreased by 4,556 billion VND, equivalent to an decrease of 58%. At the end of August, total revenue collected from this item reached 3,298 billion VND, contributing more than 10% of total revenue of the whole department.
