Foreign tourists carry goods worth nearly VND750 billion upon exit

According to Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, in July 2023, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has refunded VAT on goods brought by foreigners and oversea Vietnamese residents with a value of over VND100 billion.
Accordingly, 1,348 foreigners and oversea Vietnamese residents have been refunded VAT with a total tax of more than VND7.3 billion.
Generally, in the first 7 months of 2023, 8,750 passengers on exit were refunded nearly 61 billion VND of VAT, with a total value of goods of over VND 742.8 billion.
Goods eligible for VAT refund include: shoes, watches, clothes, cosmetics, bags, personal belongings, etc.
Thus, after the interruption of VAT refund due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, from the end of 2022, immigration activities have restored, accordingly, that foreigners and oversea Vietnamese residents carrying goods on exit receive VAT refund is increasing again.

Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has actively facilitated customers in tax refund, and proposed to remove some problems arising in the process of tax refund for foreigners, to facilitate this work.
