Discover nearly 500kg of dried seahorses importing without declaration

VCN – On 19/12, at Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT), Tan Phuoc Ward, Phu My District, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province (BR-VT), Cai Mep Customs Branch, BR-VT Customs Department chaired and coordinated with Customs Enforcement Unit (BR-VT Customs Department), Economic Police Division – BR-VT Police, Border Post of Cai Mep port and Unit 3 – Anti-smuggling and Investigation Department (General Department of Vietnam Customs) inspected a container of import goods and detected many packages containing dried seahorses without implementing customs declaration, that were hidden among imported goods.

The dried seahorses without customs declaration were discovered inside container of imported goods of Phuc Thinh Company.

According to the Cai Mep Customs Branch, the above import container was in Phuc Thinh Trading Import Export Company Limited’s name (Address 37/1 Tran Quoc Toan, Ward 8, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City). The imported goods were declared on the customs declaration as sheepskin.

Tens of parcels of dried seahorse were hidden among imported goods

Through the work of information gathering and detecting suspected signs, Cai Mep port Customs Branch stopped clearance unexpectedly (due to the declarations were classified into green channel) and coordinated with competent units in order to conduct physical inspection.

The imported sheepskin was declared in customs declaration

Through the inspection, they found that in the container, besides the sheepskins as the enterprise had declared, there were a large number of dried seahorses hidden inside. Those seahorses were not declared on the customs declaration. From preliminary statistics, the number of seahorses weigh about 500 kg. In addition, Cai Mep port Customs Branch also discovered about 4.5 kg of suspected dried animal's genitalia in the container.

At present, the Cai Mep Port Customs Branch has made a record of temporary seizure of goods shipment for further processing in accordance with regulations.
