Foreigner caught smuggling 7 gold pieces at Noi Bai Airport
Evidence of the case |
Accordingly, in a routine customs inspection at Terminal 2 of Noi Bai International Airport, customs officers of Entry Luggage Customs Procedures Team (Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch) intercepted a foreign passenger on flight UO550 from Hong Kong who was suspected of concealing metal items.
The Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch, in coordination with the Economic Crime Investigation Police Department (Team 6) of Hanoi City Police and the Noi Bai Airport Terminal Police, conducted a physical inspection of the passenger's luggage and belongings.
During the inspection, the passenger was found to be carrying seven gold-colored metal pieces, suspected to be gold, concealed around their waist and in the soles of their shoes.
The individual admitted to being hired to transport the gold from Hong Kong to Vietnam. They would have been paid HK$100 per piece upon delivery outside the airport.
The case has been handed over to the Economic Crime Investigation Police Department of Hanoi City Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The leader of Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch stated that due to the current fluctuations in the gold market and in response to directives from higher authorities, the department has heightened its vigilance and prevention measures against smuggling activities. The identification of this individual was made possible through the use of the "Passenger Information Management" software.
Previously, on October 4th, the Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch had successfully intercepted two other foreign passengers attempting to smuggle gold, totaling 6 kg.
