Director General Nguyen Van Can meets the UK Border Agency

At the meeting, General Director of Customs Nguyen Van Can welcomed and appreciated the delegation of the UK Border Agency for their visit at Vietnam Customs.
Mr. Can expected the delegation and representatives of the departments to further discuss the training assistance programs to improve the capacity for Vietnam Customs, Customs officers on the skills of collecting, analysing and evaluating information, assessing risk, identifying key subjects to select high-risk shipments shipped via airway and seaway for physical inspection and control of smuggled goods.
At the same time, talking about the reception of patrol vessels supported by the UK (vessel specifications, the method and procedures of reception. etc) and knowledge training and information provision on using equipment’s and tools for inspection and control.
Mr. Paul Goldsack agreed with Director General Nguyen Van Can's opinions. They also were the opinions expressed by the delegation of Vietnam Customs during their visit to the UK in August 2018.
In which, there was an opinion on expanding the training scope on combat against illegal wildlife trade and the implementation of CITES, which is an important content for Vietnam and a priority for the UK Government. At the same time, in the determination of the key subjects for goods transported by seaway, Vietnam Customs currently participates in the Container Control Program of the World Customs Organization (WCO)
Mr. Paul Goldsack expected that Vietnam Customs would have created conditions for the delegation to conduct the survey to capture reality, thereby finding the need of the Vietnam Customs for appropriate support.
General Director Nguyen Van Can shared with the delegation on detection and seizure of many illegal transportation cases of a large number of ivory, ivory products and rhinoceros horn in the Da Nang port area and Noi Bai International Airport in the early of October, 2018.
Therefore, besides training and equipment supports, the Director General hoped for the further sharing of intelligence for the fight against smuggling, as well as the implementation of CITES .

After the meeting, the delegation continued to work with the representatives of Vietnam Customs departments to unify, as well as to grasp the contents of training support.
