The number of prosecutions rises by 25%
In the third quarter, closely following the plans and directions of the Party, Government, and Ministry of Finance, the General Department of Customs focused on synchronous, drastic, timely, and effective implementation and achieved many remarkable results.

Notably, the entire sector processed import and export procedures for a total turnover of US$207.59 billion, an increase of 7.7% over the previous quarter.
This is the quarter with the largest turnover in the first three quarters of this year. Of which, exports reached US$108.21 billion, up 9.9% and imports reached US$99.38 billion, up 5.4%.
The total turnover for the whole nine months reached US$578.47 billion, the highest ever, up 16.3% over the same period in 2023. Of which, exports reached US$299.63 billion, up 15.4%; imports reached US$278.84 billion, up 16.8%.
Vietnam's trade balance in the first nine months had a surplus of US$20.79 billion, US$1.27 billion lower than the surplus of US$22.06 billion in the same period last year.
Regarding state budget revenue, revenue in the third quarter reached VND 104,438 billion, down 6.8% compared to the second quarter of 2024 and up 22.9% compared to the same period in 2023.
In the first nine months, the total budget revenue of the whole sector reached VND 306,312 billion, equal to 81.7% of the annual estimate, up 13.5% over the same period last year.
In the third quarter, the situation of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border continued to be complicated, with an increase in violations with signs of criminality.
In this situation, the Customs sector has drastically and synchronously implemented many solutions and detected, arrested and handled 4,748 violations, with a total estimated value of infringing goods of VND 7,584 billion.
The Customs agency has prosecuted 10 cases and transferred 39 cases to other agencies; and remitted to State budget VND141.1 billion.
Notably, in the third quarter, the number of cases prosecuted by the Customs rose by 25% and the number of cases transferred for prosecution increased by 50% compared to the same period in 2023.
In the first nine months, the Customs sector handled 12,949 violations, with the total value of infringing goods estimated at VND23,757 billion.
The Customs agency prosecuted 21 cases, transferred 128 cases to other agencies and remitted VND522.58 billion to the State budget.

Striving to successfully complete the tasks of the whole year 2024
At the Conference, representatives of the leaders of the Customs IT and Statistics Department, the Customs Control and Supervision Department, and the Department of Personnel Organization discussed and clarified the results of key tasks and proposed solutions to effectively perform the tasks in the coming time.
Chairing the conference, General Director Nguyen Van Tho assessed that the results of the third quarter and the entire nine months were very positive, especially trade facilitation, budget collection and anti-smuggling, etc.
However, the remaining time of 2024 is very short, while the workload is still extremely heavy. To contribute to the whole sector in completing its tasks well, the Director General requested that units, especially local customs departments, focus on discussing key contents such as:
Results of implementing key tasks of the unit, focusing on solutions, recommendations and proposals to solve difficulties and obstacles; assessing difficulties and shortcomings in the current IT system, how this affects the clearance of goods; difficulties and obstacles when applying new policies and salary regimes...
Following the direction of the Director General, the Deputy Directors General, representatives of the leaders of local customs departments: Ho Chi Minh City, Lang Son, Hai Phong, Dong Nai and the Anti-smuggling Investigation Department, the Finance - Administration Department discussed to clarify the outstanding results of the unit and proposed solutions to implement tasks in the last months of the year.
In the third quarter, the Customs sector presided over and coordinated with the Police and Border Guard forces to conduct 62 seizures, 80 arrests (of which the Customs sector presided over 18 cases), and seized 331.59 kg of various drugs. In the first nine months, the Customs sector presided over and coordinated with the Police and Border Guard forces to conduct 245 seizures and 296 arrests (of which the Customs sector presided over 87 cases), and seized 1.64 tons of various drugs. |
