During handling the cases, customs forces collected about VND 1,698.8 billion; prosecuted 226 cases, and transferred 602 cases to another agency for pending prosecution.

Accordingly, the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department has been chaired and coordinated to detect, arrest and handle 1,402 cases of violation. The total value of violated goods is estimated at VND 2,393.6 billion, budget collection reached VND 142 billion, and 77 cases have been prosecuted.

In order to improve the effectiveness of the anti-smuggling struggle, the General Department of Vietnam Customs has thoroughly grasped and strictly implemented the directions of the Party, the Government and the Ministry of Finance, in the fight against smuggling, trade frauds and counterfeit goods. It has concentrated on resources, and completed the basic and synchronous system of legal requirements related to customs enforcement.

At the same time, the customs authorities will concentrate on: building up professional and civil forces by strengthening the structure, organizing training and fostering classes, investing in modern equipment and vehicles for work, reforming the customs enforcement method, thoroughly applying information technology, and enhancing the use of modern equipment and management techniques.

In parallel with facilitating the export-import activities, the customs authorities conduct strict inspection and supervision in order to detect, prevent and promptly handle violations of law in the customs field. They are promoting the direction, administration, forecast and warning of smuggling situations in order to ensure the inspection, supervision and strict control of import and export smuggling activities.
