According to Dinh Ba Border Gate Customs Branch (Dong Thap Customs Department), at around 8 pm on September 13, 2024, a working group of Dinh Ba International Border Gate Border Post, the Drug and Crime Prevention Division - Dong Thap Border Guard Command, in coordination with the Dong Thap Provincial Police, Tan Hong District Police, Tan Ho Co Commune Police, and Dinh Ba Border Gate Customs Branch, organized a patrol and inspection of the border area.

When reaching the So Ha riverbank, they discovered an individual swimming illegally across the So Ha River from Cambodia to Vietnam carrying a suspicious black plastic bag. The working group began to follow them. Once the individual had illegally entered Vietnam and reached the riverbank, the working group proceeded to conduct a focused inspection.

At the scene, the authorities discovered and seized a black plastic bag (containing 4.2kg of drugs) and a two-wheeled motorcycle.

Through initial investigations, the subject confessed to being La Van Dieu (born in 1996, residing in Dinh Ba hamlet, Tan Ho Co commune, Tan Hong district, Dong Thap province). Dieu admitted that a person named Hao (unknown background) had hired him to transport the drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam for a fee of VND 8 million.

Dieu was arrested as soon as he crossed the border illegally carrying the bag of drugs back to Vietnam to hide it in the bushes along the riverbank.

The working group has proceeded to issue a record of arresting the perpetrator in the act for La Van Dieu and sealed the evidence. The case is currently under investigation by the authorities.

According to a reporter from the Customs Magazine at the scene, the So Ha River is a common river between Vietnam and Cambodia. The area where the subject swam across the river carrying drugs has a relatively narrow riverbed, with dense bushes on both sides, providing limited visibility and aiming to avoid detection by the authorities.

According to the Dinh Ba Border Gate Customs Branch, taking advantage of the rainy season and flooding, some individuals have been illegally transporting goods, including prohibited goods, from Cambodia to Vietnam.

The authorities at the border gate have intensified patrols and inspections of the area, promptly preventing violations.
