Over half a ton of firecrackers intercepted at Cha Lo border gate

At 9:30 AM on October 6, 2024, at the Cha Lo international border gate's import cargo storage area in Dan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province, a joint force led by the Anti-smuggling and Crime Prevention Department, Quang Binh Border Guard, coordinated with the Cha Lo International Border Gate Border Post, Cha Lo Border Gate Customs Branch, and the Customs Enforcement Team (Quang Binh Customs Department) to inspect a tractor-trailer with license plate 34H-03752 pulling a trailer with license plate 34R-04981, driven by Vu Duc Duong, born on September 5, 1985 (residing in Quynh Khe 1 hamlet, Kim Xuyen commune, Kim Thanh district, Hai Duong province), using passport number Q00434261 issued by the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos on March 11, 2024, entering Vietnam from Laos.

Through inspection, the authorities discovered 458 cubic boxes and 24 spherical blocks (suspected to be firecrackers) with a total weight of 556.3 kg hidden inside container number TDKU6660005 accompanying the vehicle.

At the scene, Vu Duc Duong confessed that he had been hired by an unknown 40-year-old Lao man in Tha Khek town, Laos, to transport the aforementioned firecrackers to Vietnam for a fee of VND48 million.

This is the largest amount of seized firecrackers at the Cha Lo border gate to date. The case is currently under investigation by the authorities to clarify the details and complete the file for handling according to the law.

Previously, in September, the Cha Lo Border Gate Customs Branch (Quang Binh Customs Department), coordinated in detecting 2 cases and seizing over 130 kg of firecrackers transported from Laos to Vietnam.
