According to press information released by the General Department of Customs this afternoon (May 7), in April, budget revenue from import-export activities rose 4.5% compared to the previous month to VND34,992 billion.
From the beginning of the year to the end of April, the whole sector’s revenue reached VND124,740 billion, equal to 33.3% of the assigned estimate, an increase of 0.3% over the same period last year.
Regarding import and export activities, exports in April are estimated at US$30.94 billion, down 8.1% (equivalent to US$2.72 billion) compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, imports are estimated at US$30.26 billion, down 2% (equivalent to a decrease of 0.62 billion USD) compared to the previous month.
Thus, the total import-export turnover in April is estimated at US$61.20 billion, down 5.2% (equivalent to US$3.34 billion) compared to the previous month.
The trade balance in April is estimated at a trade surplus of US$680 million.
There was a downward trend in April, but cumulatively in the first four months of the year, import and export still recorded high growth.
Specifically, in the first four months of 2024, the country's exports are estimated to reach US$123.64 billion, an increase of 15% or US$16.12 billion compared to the same period last year.
On the contrary, imports are estimated at US$115.24 billion, an increase of 15.4% or US$15.37 billion compared to the same period last year.

Overall, the total import-export turnover in the first four months of 2024 is estimated to reach US$238.88 billion, an increase of 15.2% or US$31.49 billion compared to the same period last year, the trade balance is expected to have a surplus of US$8.40 billion.
