Customs industry’s revenue in April increases by 4.5% compared to the previous month

Preliminary data show that the country's total import-export turnover in April decreased by 5.4% to US$ 61.04 billion compared to the previous month. The export turnover in April declined 7.7% to US$ 31.05 billion, and the import turnover of decreased by 2.9% to US$ 29.99 billion.
In addition, the total trade of taxable goods in April dropped 0.8% to US$ 12.4 billion compared to the month ago. The export turnover of taxable goods fell 10.3% to US$700.9 million, and the import turnover of taxable goods dropped 0.25 to US$ 11.7% month-on-month.
Although the total import-export turnover decreased, it is still considered a bright spot in Vietnam’s economy.
The efforts of businesses and the gradual recovery of export index have help the Customs revenue in the month increase by 4.5% to VND34,992 billion compared to March.
Representative of the Import-Export Duty Department under the General Department of Vietnam Customs said that April had a long holiday, leading to a total of taxable import-export turnover decreased by 0.8% compared to March.
However, the turnover of some imports with high value and high tax rates surged such as coal up 4.1% in volume and 7.1% in value, increasing revenue byVND128 billion; Petroleum products went up by 6.7% in volume and 7.4% in value, increasing revenue by VND373 billion; Iron and steel products rose 27.4% in value, increasing revenue by VND165 billion; machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts increased by 4.2% in value, increasing revenue by VND 271 billion; automobile components and spare parts rose 18.9% in value, increasing revenue by VND346 billion compared to March.
In March, preferential tax refunds worth about VND 500 billion was implemented as per the provisions of Article 7a, Article 7b of Decree 125/2017/ND-CP, Decree 57/2020/ND-CP and Decree 101/2021/ND-CP at the Quang Nam Customs Department, which is also one of the reasons for the decrease in the turnover and the increase in the revenue, the representative said.
