Mr. Trung living in Ha Don district said that he had bought a pair of shoes in a shop on Ba Trieu street (Hanoi) from a well-known brand (headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City).
He raised a question on the origin of his product with the phrase P.R.C.
Through collecting information, we found that the phrase “P.R.C” represents Chinese origin but is not as common as the phrase “Made in China”.
P.R.C is anabbreviation of“People’s Republic of China”.
Some said that Chinese exports have faced difficulties in some countries, so in the last two years, many Chinese enterprises have recommended changing the phrase “Made in China” to “Made in P.R.C” to express Chinese origin

Vietnam Customs authorities detected that enterprises not only change the way of writing the origin but also label “Made in Vietnam” onthe imported goods while they were declared as Chinese goods on Customs declaration to cheat local consumers.
There were some cases about Chinese goods counterfeiting Vietnamese goods, with silk scarfs branded Khai Silk imported from China but labeled Made in Vietnam being an example.Another example was the case of Sa Huynh Trading and Production company limited importing thousands of ASANZO-branded ovens from China but declaring them as components.
Hai Phong port Customs authorities detected two cases of violating origin of goods imported from China in July.
The first case was that the Customs Branch at Hai Phong port border gate zone 3 (Hai Phong Customs Department) seized a shipment of mobile phone accessories imported by Hoang Bao Phat IMEX one-member company limited in the regime of authorized imports for a company headquartered in Hanoi.
Upon customs clearance, the company presented to the Customs Branch a certificate of origin form E (Chinese origin). Although, the goods were imported from China and had Chinese C/O but information on packages and products showed name, address and warranty center of TITAN Vietnam trading joint stock company–a domestic company. Notably, the phrase “Made in Vietnam” and Vietnamese bar code (893) were already printed on the goods.
The other case was that at the beginning of July 2019, the Customs Branch at Hai Phong port border gate zone 1 discovered a container of shoes temporarily imported from China.
This container was tagged with TOPPER brand, inside the shoes, there were stamps with the phrase “Made in Vietnam” together with information in Spanish.

The shipment was declared as temporary imports for re-exports of sports shoes of all kinds, made in Vietnam by Lac Lac Company Limited (based in Hanoi). However, checking records, the Customs agency identified suspicions of brand and origin. Particularly, the name of goods and bill of lading presented Vietnamese origin while port of loading was Xiamen (China) and the bill of lading contained information ““PO# CARTON NO. MPORTER: ALPARGATAS S.A.I.C MADE IN VIETNAM”.
