Customs constantly innovates and applies new technology

According to Mr. Pham Duyen Phuong, the participants of WCO 2023 Technology Conference and Exhibition come from many advanced customs administrations and the world's leading technology companies, associations and the logistics business community and cross-border trade management agencies is an opportunity for Vietnam Customs to learn, grasp, and then research and apply new technologies to meet the goal of facilitating trade and improving efficiency of State management of customs, contributing to ensuring security and community safety.

With positive results in customs reform and modernization and experience gained through cooperation with Customs administrations of advanced countries and international organizations, typically cooperation with Japanese Customs in developing and running the Vietnam Automated Cargo Clearance System and Vietnam Customs Intelligence System (VNACCS/VCIS) in 2014, or implementing the National Single Window and ASEAN Single Window, Mr. Pham Duyen Phuong believes that Vietnam Customs will achieve many results from this WCO Technology Conference and Exhibition.

In addition, through the WCO 2023 Technology Conference and Exhibition, Vietnam Customs expects to share important messages such as:

First, Vietnam Customs always expects to become a leading agency in innovation to best serve the business community, while attracting talents and nurturing new generation.

Second, the Vietnam Customs staff is a professional, friendly and open-minded to welcome compliant businesses to invest and do business in Vietnam, bringing Vietnam to integrate deeper into the global value chain.

Third, Vietnam Customs continuously innovates, ready to innovate and apply new technologies. Through this conference, Vietnam Customs hopes to continue to find the best new technologies to apply in Vietnam.

3 important factors to build Digital Customs and Smart Customs

Regarding the goal of building Digital Customs and Smart Customs that Vietnam Customs is focusing on, the Deputy Director of the Customs IT and Statistics Department said that the Customs Development Strategy by 2030 defines: Building a regular, modern Vietnam Customs, on par with the Customs of developed countries in the world, leading in implementing the Digital Government, with the Digital Customs and Smart Customs model.

"For successful digital transformation, we must find appropriate technology solutions, because the Customs agency is a technology user, not a technology producer, Mr. Pham Duyen Phuong said.

On that basis, three important factors to achieve the above goal include Big Data, Internet of Things (IOT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which will help the Customs agency achieve the two goals of trade facilitation and anti-smuggling.

Sharing about the recruitment, training and use of technology talents in the field of Customs, the leader of the Customs IT and Statistics Department said: “With current management realities, Vietnam Customs is expecting to attract talents in the two areas. The first area is data management, because data is a national resource and asset, so data management is extremely important, ensuring the most reliable data collection and most effective use management. And the second is data analysis skills and building processes and data models to form into legal regulations, management procedures, and application in data management", Mr. Pham Duyen Phuong shared.

Regarding training and nurturing, the Customs sector has Vietnam Customs School. Before customs officials are assigned to specific professional tasks, they will be trained here, including technology training. In addition, when new technologies become available, the Customs sector also regularly organizes training courses to update knowledge.

In particular, to help the Customs sector achieve its goals of reform, modernization, and application of technology in operations, the companionship and cooperation of technology companies is always needed.
