Embracing the Digital Age: Leveraging Technology, Fostering Innovation, and Nurturing the Next Generation of Customs Professionals

Following the WCO’s request and the Prime Minister's approval, the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC) will coordinate with the WCO to host a WCO global technology event with the participation by over 1,000 delegations from major countries in the world.
The Prime Minister decided that from 2022, the National Digital Transformation Day is an annual activity taking place on October 10, so the GDVC has decided to hold the opening day of the conference on October 10.
Accordingly, the conference will be chaired by Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, Dr. Kunio Mikuriya; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend and speak at the opening ceremony of the conference.

The conference will be attended by leaders of Customs administrations of WCO member countries; representatives of international organizations, border agencies; technology prividers in the world, international trade enterprises; academia and researchers involved in the customs and technology arena.
The conference will be participated by representatives of the Government Office, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Culture and Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Hanoi People's Committee, and major technology providers such as Vinfast Trading and Services Company Limited, Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel), FPT Joint Stock Company, CMC Technology Corporation, ETC Technology Systems Joint Stock Company…
The representative of the GDVC’s International Cooperation Department said that the event consists of two parts, including the conference and the exhibition. The conference will consist of plenary sessions and thematic seminars on technology strategies and applications to respond to challenges of global trade, building the adaptable customs system such as cyber security, post-disaster recovery, ensuring the smooth operation in the digital era, artificial intelligence to assist the Customs in exploiting big data to improve efficiency of risk management and trade facilitation, block chain, cutting-edge detection technology to improve effectiveness in customs control, assistive technology for trade facilitation in the digital era, green customs for a sustainable future, and enhancing customs operations by using drones and robots, and promoting reform…

The 2023 WCO Technology Conference and Exhibition is held in the context when the world sees technological advances in all fields. Conference is aimed at exploring how innovation and technology can support Customs in performing its functions of trade facilitation, protection of society and revenue collection, while placing people at the heart of the digital transformation process.
According to the program, the three-day conference includes 10 plenary sessions, 9 thematic sessions. In addition, the conference will provide technology talks from experts.

The conference is an opportunity to help Customs administrations of other countries and Vietnam Customs access new technologies, exchange and learn experiences in Customs reform and modernization, contributing to building appropriate development plans and application of advanced technologies.
