Present at the arrival terminal of Tan Son Nhat International Airport these days, reporters noted that although the number of passengers entering the country is not as large as before the Western New Year, it has begun to increase.
On normal days, the busiest international airport in the country welcomes over 120 international flights, with over 15,000 passengers entering and exiting each day, then at the end of the year, the number of incoming and outgoing visitors increased significantly.
According to Deputy Head of the Import Luggage Procedures Team Dang Tien Dung, in recent days, more than 130 immigration flights have been recorded, with 23,000 passengers entering the country each day, an increase of 26% over the same period in 2023.
With a large management area and a highly demanding nature of work, especially at the end of the year, in order to handle the increase in customs procedures for immigration passengers, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Border Gate Customs Sub-department has developed a plan to assign and regulate specific forces. In addition to arranging enough check-in desks for incoming passengers, during peak tourist periods, the sub-department will arrange separate check-in desks for overseas Vietnamese.
At the customs clearance area, the sub-department has installed signs guiding customs procedures and distributed leaflets in both Vietnamese and English showing full information about relevant legal regulations to customs procedures for goods and luggage of passengers entering and exiting the country.
The Imported Luggage Procedures Team proactively coordinated with units at the terminal to capture information about flight status and incoming passengers to promptly report to the Department's leaders to arrange personnel to work continuously 24/24 hours, ensuring timely customs clearance procedures for goods and luggage of passengers entering the country.

Accordingly, in addition to actively implementing procedural reform, the unit applies risk management in the operations of passenger and luggage separation and reduces customs clearance time. Currently, over 90% of passengers mainly go to the Green channel, which is very convenient and fast. In particular, elderly passengers, pregnant women and young children will be supported by volunteers who are Youth Union members at the information desks as well as the conveyor belt area.
In addition, the Youth Union of the Sub-department will coordinate with the Export and Import Luggage Procedures Teams, as well as the Youth Unions of the units at the airport to support Overseas Vietnamese at the procedure site.
Implementing the direction of the leaders of Tan Son Nhat International Airport CustomsSub-department, the Import Luggage Procedures Team has thoroughly organized and raised the sense of responsibility for officials to closely follow the actual situation and assigned tasks according to plan No. 206/UBND dated January 12, 2024 and plan No. 25 of the unit on welcoming overseas Vietnamese to return home to celebrate Tet Giap Thin 2024.
In addition, along with the increasing number of passengers entering and exiting the country, the situation of smuggling and trade fraud through airports is forecast to increase, posing a significant challenge for the functional forces on duty at the airport.
Faced with the above situation, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Sub-department has issued a Peak Plan to fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and illegal transportation of goods across borders before, during and After the Giap Thin 2024 Lunar New Year. The unit focuses on reviewing key products; Apply appropriate control measures to effectively fight and detect customs administrative violations. At the same time, increase the effectiveness of screening and focused screening of exported goods, and change the actual inspection channel when there are suspicious signs for shipments exported to countries on key routes of drugs.
The Sub-department also actively coordinates with the Customs Control Team (HCMC Customs Department) and related forces to inspect and control export declarations to key markets. Warning on acts of transporting drugs and precursors in the form of non-commercial goods exported to some countries (in transit to Singapore), goods with fraudulent Vietnamese origin exported to the US and European markets, etc.
