Appointment of new Directors for the Customs Reform and Modernization Board and Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department

VCN - On November 21, 2024, at the headquarters of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Director General Nguyen Van Tho presided over the ceremony to announce the appointment of new leaders for the Customs Reform and Modernization Committee and the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department.

At the ceremony, Tran Quang Trung, Director of the Personnel and Organization Department, announced the following decisions:

Decision No. 2698/QĐ-TCHQ, dated November 20, 2024 of General Department of Vietnam Customs on appointment for Nguyen Hung Anh, formerly Director of the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department. He has been reassigned and appointed as the Director of the Customs Reform and Modernization Board. The decision is effective immediately.

Decision No. 2699/QĐ-TCHQ, dated November 20, 2024 of General Department of Vietnam Customs on appointment for Vu Quang Toan, formerly Deputy Director of the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department. He has been appointed as the new Director of the department. The decision is effective immediately.

During the ceremony, Director General of Vietnam Customs Nguyen Van Tho presented the appointment decisions and congratulatory flowers to Mr. Nguyen Hung Anh and Mr. Vu Quang Toan.

In his speech, Director General Nguyen Van Tho outlined the tasks ahead for the newly appointed leaders:

For Mr. Nguyen Hung Anh, the Customs Reform and Modernization Board is tasked with researching and advising on developing the customs sector toward reform and modernization. The Board is expected to act as a think tank, providing critical assessments to assist the leadership of the General Department of Vietnam Customs in making timely and informed decisions.

The Director General encouraged Mr. Nguyen Hung Anh to foster solidarity, leverage the strengths and expertise of the committee’s staff, and provide consistent guidance for reform and modernization efforts. Additionally, he emphasized maintaining unity within the committee’s leadership to ensure the successful completion of assigned tasks.

He also urged the staffs of the Board to closely monitor and support the implementation of the Customs Development Strategy to 2030, advising leadership on advancing reform initiatives across the sector.

As the new Director of the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department, Mr. Vu Quang Toan is expected to comprehensively strengthen the department’s professional operations, ensuring it remains a pivotal force in the fight against smuggling and illicit activities.

The Director General called for focused efforts to mobilize all resources—personnel, equipment, and technology—for combating drug trafficking, upholding discipline, streamlining organizational structures, and effectively utilizing support tools.

In response to the appointments, Mr. Nguyen Hung Anh and Mr. Vu Quang Toan expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Finance and the General Department of Vietnam Customs for their trust and confidence. They pledged to work closely with their teams to implement the leadership’s directives, continually striving to fulfill all assigned responsibilities and contribute to the sector’s development.
