Prime Minister request to enhance inspection and handling case of smuggling cigarette

VCN –Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has requested the Steering Committee 389 of ministries, sector and localities to strengthen and promote the inspection and strictly handle cases of smuggling and commercial fraud, especially smuggling cigarettes.

According to the Vietnam Tobacco Association, in 2013-2018, the tobacco industry faced many challenges from smuggled cigarettes with the average consumption of smuggled cigarettes up to more than 700 million packs each year. One year smuggled cigarettes accounted for 25% of consumption.

Regarding to this situation, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Finance (Permanent Office of the National Steering Committee 389) to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and related ministries and agencies to check the above information.

At the same time, this agency needed to direct the Steering Committee 389, ministries, sectors and localities to strengthen and promotion the inspection, strictly handle cases of smuggling, trade frauds, especially situation of smuggling cigarettes in the past time.

This work should be reported to the Prime Minister in August 2019.
