MoF Steering Committee 389 launches a peak campaign against smuggling during Lunar New Year 2025

According to Steering Committee 389 of the Ministry of Finance, the smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods has continued to develop complicatedly on border routes, sea areas and inland areas, with new and more sophisticated methods and tricks.
It is forecasted that in the coming time, especially before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025, smuggling and trade fraud activities will continue to develop complicatedly, and smugglers will expedite smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border.
Smuggled items mainly are essential consumer goods such as alcohol, beer, milk, sugar, cigarettes, confectionery, cosmetics, supplemental foods, medical supplies, mobile phones, gold, foreign currency...; prohibited items such as drugs, weapons, firecrackers, wild animals, animal products... to serve the market demand during the Lunar New Year.
To improve the effectiveness of anti-smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods..., and to proactively control the situation, promptly detect and prevent f smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, on December 3, the Steering Committee 389 of the Ministry of Finance issued a peak plan to fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025 (Plan 168/KH-BCĐ389).
The Steering Committee 389 requested relevant units to proactively control the situation, detect, combat, prevent and promptly and strictly handle acts of smuggling, trade fraud, illegal transportation of goods across the border, trafficking, transporting, and storing prohibited goods, smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, goods failing to meet conditions, standards, quality, and goods infringing intellectual property rights.
The Steering Committee 389 directed that the implementation of the plan must comply with legal regulations, create favorable conditions for production, business, import and export activities, prevent congestion of goods clearance at border gates, not affect or hinder normal and legal production, transportation, business, import and export of goods of organizations and individuals.
The Steering Committee 389 requested the General Department of Vietnam Customs, General Department of Taxation, Inspectorate of the Ministry of Finance, Legal Department of the Ministry of Finance, Office of the Ministry of Finance to strengthen the direction and dissemination of key tasks to professional units, proactively arrange human resources, means, and take measures and solutions to effectively implement the Plan.
The Steering Committee 389 requires linking the responsibility of the heads of agencies and units with the results of task performance.
The Plan is implemented from the date of signing and promulgation to March 14, 2025.
