Ho Chi Minh City Customs refunds over VND 4,000 billion in taxes for businesses

According to Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, in the first 10 months of 2023, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has exempted, reduced, refunded nearly 14,000 billion VND. Of which, exempted tax amount is VND9,560 billion, reduced tax amount is VND1 billion VND, tax refund is 4,018 billion VND, non-collectible tax amount is over VND196 billion.
In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department advised the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to issue 86 decisions to cancel irrecoverable tax debts worth over VND11 billion; issued 42 decisions on tax debt freezing, with a total amount of over VND 28.6 billion.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, the total overdue tax debt as of October 30, 2023 is over VND 1,878 billion, down VND 82 billion compared to September 29, 2023; decreased by VND531 billion compared to December 31, 2022
The total amount of overdue debts arising before 2023 handled by the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department from the beginning of the year to October 30, 2023 reached over VND683 billion (reaching 84.85% of the assigned debt recovery target), of which the recoverable debts are over VND649 billion; and other debts are over VND34.2 billion.
To complete the debt collection target in 2023, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has requested branches to focus on reviewing, classifying, recovering and handling tax debts arising before January 1, 2023 according to four groups: bad debts; frozen debts; pending debts; coverable debts; and apply appropriate solutions to each debt group.
At the same time, the Department has strengthened collection and handling of tax debts for declarations arising in 2022 and previous years; provided solutions according to regulations to drastically handle, enforce, and collect tax debts and reduce tax arrears and prevent the situation that debt amount at December 31, 2023 is higher than December 31, 2022.

Specifically, the department has drastically applied measures to temporarily postpone exit for legal representatives of businesses with large debts and long-term debts; disseminate and publicize the monthly lists of tax debtors.
