Export through distribution channels

One of the effective solutions that Ho Chi Minh City supports businesses is through the distribution system of foreign supermarket chains. Ho Chi Minh City businesses expect to increase exports.

Last weekend, the program of Trade Connection Week and Vietnamese Product Introduction at the modern distribution system AEON Vietnam organized by the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City attracted over 150 enterprises to participate in order to increase export goods through this system.

Information about the Japanese market, Mr. Tran Phu Lu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), said that for many years, Japan has been one of Vietnam's leading economic and trade partners.

Bilateral trade turnover in 2024 is estimated to reach nearly USD 45 billion, of which Vietnam exports to Japan USD 23.3 billion and imports from this country USD 21.6 billion. Japan is the 4th largest trading partner and the 3rd largest export partner of Vietnam.

AEON Group – one of the largest retail groups in the world has been selected by Ho Chi Minh City to connect with the city’s businesses. Based on the criteria of Vietnam AEON, focusing on the criteria of “safety, new products, regional characteristics – tradition”, ITPC has compiled more than 215 business profiles sent to register to attend the Exhibition Week, and 34 businesses met the evaluation criteria and were selected to display and introduce products.

This year, the products introduced for connection focus on high-quality items, meeting the healthy living trend of customers after the pandemic, including areas such as: organic products; packaged and processed foods; packaged agricultural products, etc.

Among them, there are many natural products that are environmentally friendly, attracting the attention of partner businesses, such as: sedge straws of The Ky So Company Limited, kitchenware products made from coconut wood of Hoa Mai Trading Company Limited.

In addition to introducing typical products of Vietnamese enterprises, the trade connection program to bring goods into the Vietnam AEON supermarket chain was organized with the participation of more than 150 Vietnamese enterprises to create opportunities for participating enterprises to meet directly with representatives in charge of purchasing product groups of AEON Group.

Through the discussions, businesses will be consulted in detail about the requirements and standards needed to bring products into the AEON supermarket chain in Vietnam and Japan; thereby helping businesses improve product quality and design while opening up new directions for penetrating demanding international markets.

Maximum support for businesses

In addition to the above program, previously, at the end of October 2024, through the connection of ITPC, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Osaka (Japan), CGC Japan Group with 205 member companies, and a retail distribution system of up to 4,448 stores came to Ho Chi Minh City to look for goods sources.

Mr. Ikeda Norimasa, CEO of CGC Group, said that with the above number of stores, the number of customers coming to shop every day at these supermarkets and stores is up to 6.7 million people

According to Mr. Ikeda Norimasa, with wide coverage and large customer base, the group is continuing to look for more suppliers and partners in Vietnam in addition to current suppliers in Thailand and the Philippines.

To access export goods through nearly 4,500 stores of CGC Group, manufacturers and suppliers in Vietnam have introduced hundreds of products in the group of fresh agricultural products, processed agricultural products... to Japanese partners.

Along with the Japanese market, in order to promote bilateral trade relations between Hong Kong, China and Ho Chi Minh City, on December 17, 2024, the Investment - Trade Forum of Ho Chi Minh City and the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macau Greater Bay Area was held in Ho Chi Minh City.

At this forum, businesses from both sides connect, exchange and expand cooperation in potential areas such as: investment, finance, green economy, science and technology, import and export, e-commerce, manufacturing, logistics, agricultural products, food, etc.

China is Vietnam's largest import market and second largest export market. In terms of investment, in the first 7 months of 2024, China was the leading partner in terms of the number of new investment projects with 540 projects and a total newly registered capital of USD 1.22 billion, accounting for 29.7% of the total number of new investment projects in the country.

Chinese FDI capital in Vietnam used to focus on manufacturing and processing industries, production industries, processing of household wooden furniture, leather shoes, garments... but now it is shifting to high-tech industries, components, spare parts for industrial production, electronics, automobiles, green energy...

Of which, Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the most Chinese investment projects with 731 projects, which will create great opportunities for the city's businesses to export to China.

Enterprises believe that through the direct connection event between enterprises of the two countries, it will create opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises to continue to grow, improve product quality and expand consumption markets, not only domestically but also internationally, thereby increasing competition and affirming the position of Vietnamese products globally.
