According to Deputy Director of HCM City Customs Department Nguyen Huu Nghiep, SPTC is an international seaport managed by the department’s Hiep Phuoc Seaport Customs Branch. The department asked the GDVC to approve the proposal of Saigon Newport Corporation.
Earlier, Saigon Newport Corporation asked HCM City Customs Department to allow the corporation to transport goods from Cat Lai and Hiep Phuoc ports to SPCT for storage and carry out procedures for customs clearance and liquidation.
Saigon Newport Corporation has complied with the GDVC’s instruction, contributing to contributing to reducing the goods backlog at Cat Lai Port, maintaining and stabilising production during the implementation of the Government’s Directive 16.
The corporation predicted that the volume of goods imported to Cat Lai Port will increase when intra-Asia ports resume operation. At the same time, the turbulence of the Covid-19 pandemic and suspension of factories’ operation will lead to the risk of increasing the backlog of imported goods.
To maintain the stable operation of Cat Lai port and the southern supply chain, Saigon Newport Corporation signed a cooperation contract with the SPCT to transport goods from Cat Lai and Hiep Phuoc port to store at the SPCT, and to increase receiving capacity for these ports in the foreseeable future.
The proposal of Saigon Newport Corporation is beyond the authority of HCM City Customs Department, so the department has asked the GDVC for instructions.
