Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of September, 2024

Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of September was over US dollars 36.46 billion, up by 27.7% as compared to the first half of September-2024. Furthermore, in the first 9 months of 2024, Vietnam was in trade surplus of USD 20.81 billion.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in the first 9 months of 2024 totaled US dollars 578.49 billion in value terms, climbed up by 16.3% (USD 81.11 billion equally) as compared to the performance of the same period of last year.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first 9 months of 2024 reached USD 392.72 billion, up by 14.8% (USD 50.73 billion equally) in comparison to the same period of 2023.

Export:

As compared to the first half of September-2024, second half of the month increase in the total export value (40.8% - USD 5.71 billion equally) is reflected by upturn in computer, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof (up by 46.3% - USD 1.19 million equally); telephone, mobile phones and part there of ( up by 41.8% - USD 794 million equally); machine, tools and equipment (up by 27.3% - USD 596 billion equally); textiles and garments (up by 41.5% - USD 506 million equally); footwears (up by 47.8% - USD 298 million equally).

Totally, in the first 9 months of 2024 total export value from Vietnam was USD 299.65 billion, climbed up 15.4% as compared to the same period of 2023 (equivalent to USD 39.93 billion in absolute value terms).

Import:

The first half to second half of September widen in the total of import value (15,1% - USD 2.2 billion equally) reflected upturn in machine, tools and equipment (up by 20.5% - USD 370 billion equally); irons and steels (up by 45.9% - USD 196 million equally); fabrics (up by 60.9% - USD 101 million equally); wheat (up by 119.9% - USD 85 million equally)…

From January to second half of September-2024, total import value into Vietnam was USD 278.84 billion, went up by 17.3% as compared to the same period of 2023 (equivalent to USD 41.18 billion in absolute value terms).
