Hai Phong Customs contributes to boosting import and export growth

“Customs department’s revenue worth hundreds of billions USD”

According to the latest statistics of the Hai Phong Customs Department, in June 2024, the total import-export turnover of goods processed at the department reached 11.06 billion USD. Although it decreased by 9.52% month-on-month, it still increased by 24.7% year-on-year.

Of which, the export turnover reached5.7 billion USD, down 4.48% month-on-month and up 20.4% year-on-year; and the taxable export turnover earned 34.95 million USD, down 13% month-on-month and up 8.8% year-on-year.

The import turnover reached 5.36 billion USD, down 14.33% month-on-month, up 29.5% year-on-year; the taxable import turnover gained 2.13 billion USD, down 15.77% month-on-month, up 34.5% year-on-year.

According to reporters' observations from statistics of the Hai Phong Customs Department, in the first half of 2024, the import and export turnover reached over 10 billion USD/month (except for February falling in Lunar New Year holiday only reached 7.8 billion USD).

In the remaining five months, the turnover reached about 11 billion USD/month to more than 12 billion USD/month. In which, the turnover in May hit the highest level with 12.23 billion USD.

In the first six months of the year, the total import-export turnover processed at Hai Phong Customs Department reached 65.4 billion USD, an increase of 21.4% over the same period in 2023.

If the import-export turnover from now until the end of 2024 is remained as in the first six months of the year, the trade in goods processed at Hai Phong Customs Department be the end of the year may hit hundreds of billions USD. Hai Phong Customs is one of the few local customs departments in the country to achieve the figure.

These figures have showed a remarkable recovery of import and export activities at Hai Phong Port after long-term effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Strengthen administrative reform to facilitate trade

Import-export activities across the management area of Hai Phong Customs have seen impressive growth, in addition to objective factors due to the recovery of the economy, the great efforts in implementing trade facilitation solutions by Hai Phong Customs Department.

Hai Phong Customs Department always focuses on administrative reform, customs modernization, and promotes the development of Customs - Business partnership with the motto “business-centric approach”.

The department focus on receiving feedback from the business community to promptly resolve or propose and advise competent authorities on solutions to remove difficulties, support and facilitate the sustainable development of the business community.

In 2024, Hai Phong Customs Department continues to determine that the administrative procedure reform and digital transformation must be strongly performed in the whole department in an effective manner with “business-centric approach” for goals of reform and development.

Notably, the department removes difficulties and obstacles for businesses; promotes the implementation of specific solutions for Customs reform and modernization, trade facilitation, improvement of business environment, enhancement of national competitiveness, bringing the Customs-Business partnership to become more and more practical.

The department has established many direct and indirect channels to grasp and support businesses. Notably, the department successfully organized a dialogue conference between Hai Phong Customs Department and logistics operators in 2024 with the participation of about 100 firms (in February 2024).

The department advised and submitted to the People's Committee of Hai Phong a plan to hold a dialogue conference with import-export businesses in 2024, drawing the participation of about 500 delegates of 250 firms (in March 2024). Through the conferences, the department received and answered practical comments from the business community, contributing to strongly improving the quality of Hai Phong City's business environment to match with the context and development trends.

Hai Phong Customs Department regularly reviews operational processes to report and propose to the General Department of Vietnam Customs and Hai Phong City People's Committee solutions suitable to the actual requirements of task performance.

Notably, Hai Phong Customs has proposed solutions to Hai Phong City People's Committee to execute air logistics services, develop models and methods to implement customs procedures and management for postal parcels, international express parcels, goods traded via e-commerce in line with the current commercial development trends.
