Dong Thap Customs builds a strong force, meeting task requirements in new situation, President Vo Van Thuong

Welcoming the President and the Working Group are leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Dong Thap province; leaders of Dong Thap Customs Department and the leaders and officials of Thuong Phuoc Border Gate Customs Branch.

Reporting to the President and the Working Group, Director of Thuong Phuoc Border Gate Customs Branch Le Van Thao said that the unit performs State management of Customs in the assigned area at Thuong Phuoc international border gate, located in Thuong Phuoc 1 commune, Hong Ngu district, Dong Thap province, adjacent to Kaoh Roka international border gate in Kaoh Roka commune, Peam Chor district, Prey Veng province, Cambodia.

With 21 civil servants, Thuong Phuoc Border Gate Customs Branch performs two key tasks: implementing customs procedures, inspection, supervision, and customs control of imported and exported goods and luggage, means of transport on entry, exit, and in transit; and preventing smuggling, trade fraud, illegal cross-border transportation of goods and drug smuggling.

In recent years, the branch has effectively performed communication and supported customs declarants and taxpayers; promptly resolved difficulties and problems arising for businesses through quarterly direct dialogues; ensured 100% of businesses carrying out electronic customs procedures, online public services, 24/7 electronic tax payment, facilitated import-export activities, immigration, transit, and border trade development.

In 2023, the department processed 2,682 import and export declarations, with a turnover of US$202.2 million; 6,233 exit, entry, transit and independent transportation declarations; 7,630 entry and exit vehicles along with 26,556 crew members.

Particularly for goods in transit and independent transportation, the unit carried out customs procedures, inspected and supervised 111,614 containers in transit and containers entering to ICD; 42,625 containers of goods transited to Cambodia.

Regarding the collection and payment to the State budget, the unit collected VND79.5 billion, exceeding the assigned target of VND21 billion. Taxable imports are mainly scrap, molasses, iron ore and fertilizers.

Regarding the implementation of Customs control measures to prevent smuggling and illegal cross-border transportation of goods, the unit seized 12 cases worth VND490.96 million; In which there are two typical cases (transferred to the criminal agency for handling) including: the case of illegally transporting VND167.58 million across border and the case of smuggling of 6,000 packages of foreign cigarettes, valued at VND95.75 million.

The Director of Thuong Phuoc Border Gate Customs Branch also reported and proposed a number of difficulties in performing tasks at the border gate.

Speaking and wishing the unit a Happy New Year, President Vo Van Thuong wished that Dong Thap Customs Department would promote the spirit of solidarity and continue to build a strong and honorable customs force and Party organization in the unit, meeting increasingly high task requirements in the new situation.

Particularly for Thuong Phuoc Border Gate Customs Branch, it is necessary to coordinate closely with the other authorities in the province and the local area to firmly grasp the situation in the border gate and border areas, to promptly report, propose and advise leaders to solve arising problems, to build a peaceful, stable and developed border.

​"In foreign affairs, it is necessary to strengthen the good relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia, contribute to enhancing the image of Vietnam Customs, and strengthen the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia" – the President emphasized.

On behalf of the leaders of Dong Thap Customs Department, Director of Dong Thap Customs Department Tran Quoc Hoan respectfully thanked the President and comrades in the working group for their visit and wishes for the Tet, and greetings to officials of the Dong Thap Customs Department and Thuong Phuoc Border Gate Customs Branch.

Dong Thap Customs Department and Thuong Phuoc Border Gate Customs Branch would like to seriously listen the President's instructions and concretize them into tasks to guide the general activities of the Department and the Branch. Director of Dong Thap Customs Department promised the President and the leaders that Dong Thap Customs Department and Thuong Phuoc Border Gate Customs Branch would be determined to successfully complete the tasks assigned by the Party and State.
