Da Nang Customs: number of declarations increases 10 times in 17 years

VCN – Since Quang Nam – Da Nang Customs Department was divided into Da Nang Customs Department and Quang Nam Customs Department (in 2002), after 17 years, the number of declarations for implementing procedures at Da Nang Customs Department increased by 10 times.

Da Nang Customs Department has paid attention to building the image of a customs official

At the ceremony to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Da Nang Customs Department, the director of the Da Nang Customs Department Quach Dang Hoa said: “On this day 45 years ago, on November 3, 1975, Minister of Foreign Trade Phan Anh signed Decision No. 1014 / BNT-TCCB on the establishment of Quang Nam - Da Nang Customs Branch, the forerunner of Da Nang Customs Department today.”

Over the years, Da Nang Customs Department has implemented all political tasks assigned by the sector and locality. The generations of customs officials have witnessed many outstanding achievements in customs management in the area.

Especially, from August 13, 2002, Quang Nam - Da Nang Customs Department was divided into Da Nang Customs Department and Quang Nam Customs Department, so efficiency and productivity increased over the years.

In 2002, the number of customs declarations of the unit was 11,199 papers; import and export turnover reached $566 million; revenue collection reached VND1,022 billion. The number of violations was 117 cases, the amount of administrative penality was VND575 million.

By 2019, the number of declarations reached 111,965 papers (an increase of nearly 10 times), import-export turnover reached $3.53 billion (an increase of 6.3 times), the revenue collection reached VND4,044.16 billion (increasing by 4 times). The number of cases with violations was 280 cases (an increase of 2.4 times), the amount of administrative monetary penalities was more than VND2.8 billion (increasing by nearly 5 times).

In addition to investing in infrastructure, modern equipment for operating professional works, Da Nang Customs was also an unit that invested in building a beautiful, spacious and modern headquarters and was one of the pioneers of the whole Customs sector in the use of computers, the application of IT in professional operations and management. This contributed to changing the management thinking towards a dynamic, creative and professional direction, helping Da Nang Customs Department reach a certain position in the administrative reform and modernisation of the customs sector and locality.

Today, in the context of increasing international economic integration, the need for customs reform and modernisation is increasing, at the same time contributing to the successful implementation of the task of building and developing Da Nang in accordance with Resolution 43-NQ TW of the Politburo, Da Nang Customs Department focused more on the goal of both facilitating import and export activities, immigration and enhancing capacity and efficiency of customs management.

In particular, the unit paid attention to building the image of a customs official that is both beautiful in appearance (expressed through a dedicated attitude, professional and civilised behavior, as well as politeness) and good at professional expertise (demonstrated through professional and legal expertise, innovation) with a sense of responsibility, solidarity, and unity.

Through adopting a series of solutions such as building the Project "Customs Smile", promulgating the Code of Conduct, codes of public service applicable at Da Nang International Airport, reviewing construction, normalising professional processes into actual conditions at the unit, building a core team of experts; focusing on training, fostering, promoting creativity, considering people as the decisive factor for every victory of Da Nang Customs Department.

In the field of anti-smuggling and preventing trade fraud, Da Nang Customs Department achieved a number of outstanding results such as establishing a great victory in detecting and seizing a very large amount of ivory transferred to Da Nang port area. With this achievement, the Department was awarded the Second Class Victory Medal by the State and Da Nang Port Customs Branch was awarded the Third Class Victory Medal.
