Customs strengthen to cooperate with Vietnam Steel Association

For the implementation of cooperation activities with Vietnam Steel Association, the Customs Reform and Modernization Board (General Department of Customs) has developed a draft for a cooperation program in 2017, with the main target of implementing the activities cooperation as mutually agreed between the General Department of Customs and Vietnam Steel Association signed May 6/2016.
Collaboration is expected to focus on the exchange of information, consultation strengthened cooperation, and monitoring of law enforcement.
The General Department of Customs and the Vietnam Steel Association has signed a cooperation agreement from June 2016. The two organisations agreed to cooperate in areas such as information exchange on the Export and Import of steel, steel prices, steel products, and Import – Export Steel enterprises.
Furthermore, exchange information about the fraud and smuggling situation in order to work together, strive to prevent the activities of trade fraud, and smuggling of steel.
Coordinate to review legislation, procedures, methods of management, execution conditions to take measures to create favorable conditions for import-export activities of enterprises, and improve the efficiency of Customs operations. Coordinate to solve problems arising in the implementation of Customs legislation and propose solutions to improve the system of Customs legislation.
At the same time, organizing training session about steel products, analysis and classification of steel products for Customs and businesses.
In 2016, the sector recorded a number of cooperative activities with Vietnam Steel Association such as: Consultations on the construction of regulations, Customs policies and legislation, evaluated improved management of the Customs office through a dialogue conference; a Conference to deploy the reform plan to modernize Customs, thematic conferences; exchange of information on the production and business situation of steel, and information on businesses; and tracking to solve problems.
The total value of imports of the steel industry in 2016 was $US 9.1 billion and exports of $US 2.4 billion. Steel was one of the 10 main groups of imported goods in 2016.
