The Customs sector clears goods valued at more than US$3 billion during Tet holiday

VCN – The number of enterprises, declarations and export turnover during the Lunar New Year of 2022 increased significantly compared to Lunar New Year 2021, according to the latest statistics of the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Rising declarations at 142 customs branches

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, during the Tet holiday (from January 29th to February 6th), there were 2,462 enterprises importing and exporting goods, an increase of 2.56 times compared to the figures for the Tet holiday 2021.

The total number of customs declarations was 20,460, double the number of declarations registered during the Lunar New Year 2021.

Notably, during the Lunar New Year 2022, businesses registered for import and export declarations at 142 customs branches (increasing by 16 branches compared to 2021), belonging to 34 local customs departments.

The country's total import-export turnover reached US$3.05 billion, a sharp increase of 83% over the same period in 2021. In particular, exports reached US$1.47 billion, double that of 2021; imports reached US$1.58 billion, up 68%.

The reason for this prosperity is that the holiday is longer compared to the Lunar New Year 2021 (which was only 7 days off).

Trade surplus reaches US$680 million

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, from the beginning of the year to the end of February 6, 2022, the total import and export turnover of the whole country reached US$61.85 billion, down 10.5% compared to the same period last year.

In which, exports reached nearly US$31.26 billion, down 12.7%, and imports reached US$30.59 billion, down 8.2%.

Thus, from the beginning of the year to the end of February 6, 2022, Vietnam had a merchandise trade surplus of $0.68 billion.

During the Lunar New Year in 2022, phones and components; computers, electronic products and components were the largest import and export group.

Specifically, during the Lunar New Year 2022, the main export items included phones and components worth US$631.3 million, accounting for 43%.

Followed by computers, electronic products and components with US$398.6 million, accounting for 27.1%, machinery and equipment products reaching US$87.7 million, accounting for nearly 6%.

Thus, the total export turnover of the three largest groups of products mentioned above accounted for 76.1% of the total export turnover.

Meanwhile, the main imported products are computers, electronic products and components with US$799.4 million, accounting for 50% of import turnover.

Next, the group of phones and mobile phone components reached US$242.9 million, accounting for 15.4%, the group of machinery and equipment of all kinds reached US$111.4 million, accounting for 7.1%.

The three largest commodity groups mentioned above accounted for 72.5% of total import turnover during the Lunar New Year this year.

During the 2022 Lunar New Year, Vietnamese goods have been exported to 109 countries and territories.

Vietnamese goods are exported mostly to the Chinese market with a turnover of US$400 million, accounting for 27.3% of the total export turnover of the country.

Followed by the US with US$347.6 million (accounting for 23.7%), South Korea with US$86 million (accounting for 5.9%), Hong Kong (China) with US$59 million (accounting for 4%), Japan with US$41.8 million (accounting for 2.8%).

Also during the nine days of the Lunar New Year holiday, businesses imported goods from 81 countries and territories.

Accordingly, goods are imported mostly from Korea with US$547.8 million, accounting for 34.7% of total import turnover.

Followed by goods originating from China with US$349 million (accounting for 22.1%), the US with US$104.7 million (accounting for 6.6%), Taiwan market (China) with US$84.7 million (accounting for 5.4%), Ireland with US$72.1 million (accounting for 4.5%).
