This was the content presented at the working session between General Department of Vietnam Customs and General Statistics Office of Vietnam, inter-ministrial working group on monthly statistics of import - export turnover for directing and operation of the Government held on August 21 at the headquarters of the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

At the meeting, Director General of the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Planning and Investment) Nguyen Thi Huong said that the import and export statistics of goods used in the monthly report of the General Statistics Office include estimates data (published on 29th of reporting month); preliminary data (announced on the 29th of the month after the reporting month) and official figures (used on June of the year after the reporting year).

The estimated data on import and export of goods released by the General Statistics Office monthly is calculated by the Inter-Ministerial Working Group on the basis of the first 15-day report of the General Department of Vietnam Customs and information on the import and export situation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Nguyen Thi Huong expected the two sides would continue to exchange, discuss and agree on the time for providing import and export data to serve statistics.

At the meeting, Deputy Director General of Vietnam Customs Luu Manh Tuong thanked leaders of the General Statistics Office and members of the Inter-Ministerial Working Group for working with the General Department of Vietnam Customs (Customs IT and Statistics Department) for helping the operation of the Government to run smoothly, as well as accurate statistics.

Following the instructions of the Government Office, at this meeting, the two sides agreed on the time and method for providing data of monthly export and import statistics and proposed solutions to avoid data difference between agencies.

The Deputy Director General suggested the statistics of import and export data need to prolong time for actual data statistics and shorten time for making estimates data.

“The General Department of Vietnam Customs complies with regulations and strictly follows the provision and disclosure of import and export data (reporting period, publishing method). The General Department of Vietnam Customs did not provide for those not in the provisions of the decree and the Law on Statistics,” Deputy Director General Luu Manh Tuong said.

He also agreed with the leaders of the General Statistics Office on agreeing three points of time/month for providing data to the Inter-Ministerial Working Group by for the Customs IT and Statistics Department for evaluation, analysis and forecast.

Based on the meeting, the General Department of Statistics was requested to report, of that reaching agreement on providing export data by the General Department of Vietnam Customs to General Statistics Office of Vietnam to advise the Government on calculating economic indicators
