According to the Branch, import and export turnover declined due to many objective factors such as the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the global economy, the decrease in exports, investment, FDI attraction in the domestic market, and the tariff reduction roadmap committed to in free trade agreements.
In the first half of the year (as of May 15), the North Hanoi Customs Branch processed 22,600 declarations, up 4.45% year-on-year. However, import and export turnover plunged, which showed the difficult economic situation.
Accordingly, import-export turnover reached US$887 million, including export turnover at US$275 million, and import turnover at US$612 million or 84.96% over the same period in 2022.
Currently, products are mainly imported at the North Hanoi Customs Branch such as alcohol, beer, two-wheeled motorcycles, milk and dairy products, cosmetics, steel, auto parts, and computer components. Items are mainly exported, including wood, agricultural products, handicrafts, and garments.
The decrease in import and export turnover led to a plunge in the revenue of the branch compared to the same period last year. As of May 15, the Branch collected VND 1,539 billion or 77.5% year-on-year, meeting 28.5% of the target.
According to the assessment of the branch, the fall in the taxable turnover of the major commodities such as machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts; computers, electronic products and mobile phones had led to the decline in the revenue.
The leader of the North Hanoi Customs Branch said that the branch has implemented trade facilitation solutions for businesses, focusing on processing customs procedures and quickly clearing goods, and handling arising problems of enterprises.
At the same time, the branch has supervised and monitored all operational stages to promptly detect and remove shortcomings and errors.
