Nghe An: Difficulty dealing with drug-related crimes

VCN - A new method of drug-related crimes is to disguise as Vietnamese people who go to work or have no job due to the Covid-19 pandemic and illegally enter Vietnam, but actually transport drugs into the country.

Three subjects Va Ba Gio, Gia Duy Chung and Gia Ba Kenh were arrested together with a large number of drugs.

Reveal many large shipping lines

According to Steering Committee 389 of Nghe An province, towards the end of the year, demand for moving people and goods increases and the situation of illegal drug trafficking and transportation to Vietnam, or using Vietnam as a transit place, happened complicatedly. Therefore, Steering Committee 389 of Nghe An province has directed forces to strengthen control checkpoints, and perform Covid-19 pandemic prevention, prevent the formation of convergence points and illegal drug trafficking and transporting lines throughout the locality.

With drastic expedition, on the first day of 2021 (at 8:15 PM on January 1, 2021), at Noong De village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district, the forces discovered and arrested two subjects including Gia Duy Chung (born in 2003) and Gia Ba Kenh (born in 2004) that lived in Doan Man commune, Ky Son district. They illegally transported 12 bricks of heroin, about 54,000 tablets of synthetic narcotics and 1 kg of meth.

Expanding investigation, forces arrested Va Ba Gio (born in 2000, residing in Muong Ti commune, Ky Son) for illegal transportation of narcotics.

According to initial testimony, Gia Ba Gio hired Kenh and Chung to transport the drugs from the border to Muong Xen town, then Gio would transport the drugs from Nghe An to the northern provinces for consumption with the wage of VND 300 million.

Recently, on 9/1, in the territory of 2 communes Chau Thon and Tien Phong, Que Phong district, the Anti-Drug Enforcement Team (Nghe An Customs Department) worked with the Que Phong district police force to discover Bui Van Mang (born in 1985, residing in Hoa Thuan Dong ward, Hai Chau district, Da Nang city) and Nguyen Dang Quang (born in 1985 living in Tay An village, Hoa Chau commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city) for transporting 2 kg of meth and 1 kg of ketamine.

These were two of the major projects of the competent forces of Nghe An in the expedition for attack all kinds of crimes to ensure security and order for the 13th National Party Congress and Lunar New Year 2021.

Sophisticated tricks

The Steering Committee 389 of Nghe An province said domestic and foreign drug-related crimes are increasingly closely linked, forming lines with sophisticated, reckless and dynamic methods, equipped with many modern communication methods. The subjects established a buying and selling line and leaders in the line did not directly transport drugs. They entice a number of people who have lineage with Lao people to transport drugs to border provinces of Vietnam - Laos. The Lao subjects, when transporting drugs into the Vietnam - Laos border areas, often choose delivery places and arrange people to search for routes and guards.

Nghe An Customs also stated that, although the Covid-19 pandemic was complex, the drug-related crime still increased operation of illegal transport of drugs across border and trading, forming many closed lines and constantly changing locations. Taking advantage of the dark night and complex terrain, the subjects are willing to cut the forest and bring drugs inland.

Notably, recently, drug-related crimes tend to form lines of gangs led mainly by foreigners, which are increasing with sophisticated methods and tricks. Besides that, competent forces also removed many drug transport lines from the border area to northern and southern provinces led by people from outside the province or into the area to trade and transport drugs.

Facing that fact, the Steering Committee 389 Nghe An directed forces to closely coordinate, especially competent forces on the Vietnam-Laos borderline to carry out sweeps and attacks on destinations for trading, transporting and consuming narcotics. In particular, strengthening inspection and control in districts of Ky Son, Que Phong, Tuong Duong and Thanh Chuong to prevent, detect and arrest drug traffickers in large scale lines and transnational organisations.

In tandem with that, to arrange force to perform duty 24/24h in the management area; promote communication and mobilise people not to cover up and support drug-related crimes; not transporting, trading, possessing and using narcotics.
