According to HCM City Customs Department, in 7/2018, there are 20 enterprises that opened nearly 150 customs declarations to implement import procedures for scraps via HCM City border gates. In that, the enterprises’ main operations were for imported paper scraps.
Among the 29,000 tons of imported scraps in July, there are only about 1,500 tons of plastic scrap, the rest is paper scrap imported through Cat Lai port and Hiep Phuoc port.
According to Saigon port area 1 Customs Branch, the importing of plastic scrap for arrival at Cat Lai port is no longer available, and Saigon Newport Corporation has stopped receiving this item since June of 2018.
According to Mr. Nguyen Phuong Nam, Director of Dispatch Center of Saigon Newport Corporation, at present, Cat Lai port has backlogged about 9,000 teus (equivalent to 4,500 containers) of paper and plastic scrap. It accounts for nearly 20% of the capacity of Cat Lai port.
If the situation does not change, it will not only stop receiving until 30/9 as announced, Saigon New Port will continue extending the suspension time of plastic scrap imports into Cat Lai and Hiep Phuoc port.
