HCM City Customs detects violations worth nearly VND 4.4 trillion

VCN - In the first 10 months of 2024, the HCM City Customs Department uncovered nearly 2,000 violations, with the value of the seized goods estimated at nearly VND 4.4 trillion.

According to the department, in October 2024 alone, customs authorities spearheaded and coordinated efforts to detect and apprehend 265 cases of violations, involving goods valued at approximately VND 335.15 billion. Among these were five cases of smuggling, illegal transport of goods, and trafficking of prohibited items.

Significant cases included the inspection of HCM Customs for hand luggage of a South Korean tourist departing Vietnam, uncovering and seizing 365.4 grams of ketamine; a package imported from Canada, declared as personal gifts, was found to contain 1 kilogram of cannabis.

From the beginning of 2024 to October 31, 2024, the department detected and handled 1,942 violation cases, with the value of goods involved estimated at over VND 4.347 trillion.

Among these, a total of 1,939 cases were resolved administratively, with fines contributing nearly VND 39 billion to the state budget. Meanwhile, 46 cases were prosecuted or transferred to other authorities for prosecution.
