More than 7 kg of synthetic drugs seized in imported gift packages

VCN- On inspecting three gift packages imported from the EU to Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department detected and seized about 7.4kg of synthetic drugs.

On May 5, 2019, the Drug Enforcement Team under Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department led and coordinated with the Express Cargo Customs Branch and PC04- Ho Chi Minh City Police to inspect three packages imported from the EU suspected of containing drugs.

Two packages were sent from Portugal and one package was sent from Germany to Ho Chi Minh City via international postal service under the form of personal non-commercial gifts.

Implementing aphysical inspection, the Customs seized 7.4kg of MDMA (ecstasy).

The drugs were hidden in boxes, stuffed animals and CD players.

In order to avoid detection by competent forces, smugglers in international drug gangs sent these packages to bogus addresses on the bill of lading and on the packages.

Ho Chi Minh City is investigating the case.
