HCM City Customs: Cargo clearance hits nearly $80 billion

According to HCM City Customs Department, the total value of import and export goods in July reached $12.916 billion, rising by 37.14% from the same period in 2020. In which, the total export value imports reached $4,589 billion, up 5.54% and total import value was $8.327 billion, increasing by 64.24%.
The trade balance of goods through the border gates in HCM City in July saw a trade deficit of about $3.7 billion.
Total import-export turnover in seven months was estimated at $79.8 billion, up by 33.6% over the same period in 2020. In which, export turnover reached $31.5 billion, up 8.6% from the same period last year, while import turnover reached $48.2 billion, rising by 57% over the same period in 2020 to reach $30.67 billion.
Many items had high import turnover, such as gasoline at $2.45 billion, up by 191% over the same period in 2020; machinery and equipment reached $7.52 billion, up 119.2%; iron and steel reached $1.83 billion, climbing by 88.7%; computers and accessories hit $9.70 billion, rising by 12.4%; and automobiles of all kinds reached $0.85 billion, up 123.7%.
To clear the large quantities of goods as mentioned above, especially during the time when HCM City applied social distancing under Directive 16 of the Prime Minister, customs officials of HCM City Customs Department have made efforts to overcome difficulties and implement many effective information technology solutions; a number of border-gate customs units and outside border-gate have implemented "three on-spot" to both ensure pandemic prevention while maintaining professional operations and clearing import and export goods for businesses.
