Operations at land border gate

After nearly four hours crossing more than 100km of mountainous roads, we arrived at Cau Treo international border gate. Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Branch (Ha Tinh Customs Department) is located in the middle of the forest and mountains. Customs officers of Cau Treo Customs Branch welcomed us.

Unlike during the Covid-19 pandemic and when the Lao side closed the border gate, from May 9, the flow of people and vehicles through Cau Treo international border gate has increased again. In order to provide maximum support for goods and means of transport of enterprises and people, the unit has arranged for customs officers to work 24 hours per day, said Director of Cau Treo Border Gate Customs Branch Le Minh Duc.

The flow of people and vehicles across the Vietnam - Laos border is increasing. It is estimated that Cau Treo international border gate receives hundreds of vehicles per day.

Since the beginning of the year, the unit has received and cleared 3,848 sets of declarations with a total import-export turnover of US$160.42 million. The unit has collected more than VND210 billion, equaling 45.78% of the assigned plan and down 9.2% year-on-year.

To get the above results, Cau Treo international border gate Customs Branch has accompanied enterprises to "overcome the pandemic". The unit has offered solutions to promote import and export, creating maximum favorable conditions for businesses, especially in terms of customs procedures.

"From the fourth quarter of every year, the unit develops solutions to create a more open mechanism to conduct fast customs clearance," said Director Le Minh Duc.

Youth from the international seaport

Unlike the land border gate, when we arrived at the international seaport, we witnessed shipments and entry and exit of ships at Son Duong – Vung Ang port.

Director of Vung Ang port border gate Customs Branch Cao Thang said, although the revenue failed to meet the assigned target due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the unit contributed more than 90% of budget revenue to Ha Tinh Customs Department. The unit has made every effort to create maximum convenience to quickly release goods for businesses.

As of May 31, there were 407 entry and exit ships through Son Duong - Vung Ang port. The Vung Ang port border gate Customs Branch received and processed 1,614 sets of declarations with a total import-export turnover of US$2,066 million, collecting more than VND4,461billion, equaling 56.3% of the assigned target. In the context of general difficulties, the above results marked the efforts of the unit in the task performance.

Along with the exciting pace at the border gate and port areas after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, other units of Ha Tinh Customs are also making efforts to contribute to completing assigned tasks. Mr. Dinh Van Hoa, Deputy Director of Ha Tinh Customs Department said: After two long years of being affected by the pandemic, the hustle and bustle of goods through the area gives the feeling that life is being revived.

To further support import-export activities in the area, Ha Tinh Customs has developed solutions to create the best conditions for import-export enterprises, strengthen communication and support new businesses in carrying out customs in the area to increase revenue.

In addition, Ha Tinh Customs has proactively advised the province on solutions to attract businesses to carry out customs clearance through Cau Treo international border gate, promoted the existing potentials and advantages; maintained the container route through Vung Ang port, turning Vung Ang port into a transshipment point for goods with Laos, Northeast Thailand, Myanmar and an exit of the East-West economic corridor connecting international maritime routes to exchange goods with countries around the world.
