Strengthening efforts to combat smuggling and illegal pig transport
The General Department of Vietnam Customs recently issued a directive requiring the implementation of various measures to enforce Prime Minister’s Directive No. 41/CT-TTg dated November 6, 2024, which emphasizes resolute and synchronized solutions to prevent and control African swine fever.
Accordingly, General Department of Vietnam Customs requested leaders of customs units are required to ensure rigorous and effective implementation of the Prime Minister’s directives and orders on anti-smuggling measures, including: Directive No. 29/CT-TTg dated December 6, 2023, Order No. 871/CĐ-TTg dated September 29, 2022, Order No. 12/CĐ-TTg dated January 31, 2024, Directive No. 41/CT-TTg dated November 6, 2024.
Units are to closely monitor the situation and proactively deploy professional measures before, during, and after the Lunar New Year of 2025, when the demand for food significantly increases. Special attention should be paid to combating smuggling and the illegal transportation of pigs across borders, particularly in the southwestern border areas.
Furthermore, strengthen collaboration with other functional forces, including the Border Guard, Police, Market Surveillance, Quarantine authorities, and the Veterinary Department. Enhance partnerships with international organizations and neighboring countries to share information and support efforts to prevent and combat illegal cross-border pig transport.
Moreover, conducting timely inspections and reinforce control efforts to effectively prevent smuggling and the illegal transport of animals and animal products, particularly pigs.
