Focusing on the fight against intellectual property infringement

This is one of the directions of the Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung, Standing Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee 389 for the Provincial and Municipal Committees 389 on strengthening the fight against intellectual property (IP) infringement.
Recently, the production and trading of fake goods, poor quality goods and goods infringing intellectual property rights have taken place nationwide with a tendency to increase, and many large scale intellectual property infringement cases operating in a systematic manner have not been detected and handled in a timely fashion. Facing this situation, on October 12, 2018, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has instructed ministries, sectors and the National Steering Committee 389 to strengthen the fight, detection, prevention and handling of IP infringement cases related to goods manufactured or traded on the market (Notice No. 410 / TB-VPCP dated October 25, 2018 of the Government’s office).
In order to seriously implement the directions of the Standing Deputy Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee 389 requests the provincial and municipal Steering Committees 389 to boost the propaganda and education so that people and consumers can realize the harmful effects by trading and consumption of fake goods, poor quality goods and goods infringing IP rights; to take the initiative in detecting and denouncing acts of producing or trading fake goods, poor quality goods and goods infringing IP rights.
At the same time, directing the competent forces to grasp the situation, inspect and control goods manufactured and traded on the market in order to promptly detect and handle acts of producing and trading fake goods, poor quality goods and goods infringing IP rights, especially prior and during the Lunar New Year (2019).
In particular, focusing on detecting and dealing with the lines and groups of production and consumption of fake goods, poor quality goods on a large scale, especially goods harmful to health such as food products, cosmetics, supplementary food and medicines.
Localities should take the initiative in reviewing inappropriate legal documents on fake goods, poor quality goods and goods infringing IP rights and international treaties, and for proposing appropriate amendments and supplements.

Assigning the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee 389 to monitor and urge the process of implementation of the above-mentioned directions, sum up and report to the Steering Committee.
