Director General of Vietnam Customs Nguyen Van Can participates in talkshow to celebrate “75th anniversary of establisment of Vietnam Customs”

Attending the talk show were Secretary Party Committee, Director General of Vietnam Customs Nguyen Van Can; Deputy Directors General: Nguyen Duong Thai, Mai Xuan Thanh, Luu Manh Tuong; and 150 delegations representing units under the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
The talkshow was held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of establishment of Vietnam Customs (September 10, 1945 - September 10, 2020).
Vietnam Customs was established under Ordinance No. 27/SL by the Minister of Home Affairs Vo Nguyen Giap on behalf of the interim President of the Government signed on September 10, 1945, only eight days after President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This affirms the indispensable role of the Customs forces to the development history of the country.
Over 75 years of development, associated with the country's history of revolutionary struggles, Vietnam Customs has grown and matured in all aspects, always striving for the goal of "protecting the interests of national sovereignty".
Amid complex developments in the world political and economic situation and extensive international integration, Vietnam Customs has advised the Ministry of Finance and the Government on many effective solutions to implement State management policies in the field of customs, contributing to ensuring a healthy business environment as well as facilitating international trade. At the same time, the Customs force has played an important role in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, contributing to protecting economic security, social safety and the interests of consumers.

As the role of "gatekeeper of the economy", in the past 75 years, generations of Vietnamese Customs officials and employees have promoted tradition, solidarity, consensus and gave prominence to responsibility in task performance; making great efforts to strive, innovate, emulate to create many outstanding achievements, working to build Vietnam Customs "Professionalism - Transparency - Efficiency".
Over the past 75 years, Vietnam Customs has been awarded many noble awards by the Party and State. The sector was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal (1995 and 2005) twice.
In the past five years (2016-2020), the whole sector had 28 collectives awarded the Government's Emulation Flag, one group was awarded the First Class Independence Medal, one group was awarded the Third Class Independence Medal, seven collectives were awarded First Class Labour Medal, 29 collectives and 44 individuals were awarded Second Class Labor Medal, 16 collectives and 70 individuals were awarded the Third Class Labour Medal. Many collectives and individuals in the Customs sector were also awarded with the Medal of Victory at all levels in the fight against smuggling and trade fraud.
At the sixth awarded delegates conference (held on August 20 in Hanoi), the General Department of Vietnam Customs was honoured to be awarded the First Class Labour Medal by the State President (in Decision No. 1456/QD-CTN dated August 19, 2020).
On the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam Customs, with the agreement of the leaders of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Customs News worked with the Personnel and Organisation Department (General Department of Vietnam Customs) to hold a talkshow with the topic “75th anniversary of establishment of Vietnam Customs – The goal of protecting interest of national sovereignty". It aimed to meet, share and exchange experiences with the guests who are leaders of the General Department of Vietnam Customs and some units having many outstanding achievements and imprints, making great contributions to Vietnam Customs in today’s period of economic development and integration.
This talkshow aimed to contribute to raising the sense of responsibility, fostering feelings and will to strive for all customs officials and employees to emulate efforts, continue to complete all assigned tasks, worthy contributions to the country's renewal, development and integration in the new period, worthy of the concern, directives and leadership of the Party, Government and the Ministry of Finance, cooperation and assistance of ministries, sectors and localities and the trust of the people nationwide.
The talkshow is held in the form of exchange, discussion and interaction between the Customs News and guests. It divided into two discussion sessions with the following topic content:
Session 1: Protection of interests of national sovereignty, community security and safety
With the participation of speakers: Nguyen Van Can, Director General of Vietnam Customs; Nguyen Tien Loc, Director of Post Clearance Audit Department; Nguyen Hung Anh, Director of Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department; Dinh Ngoc Thang, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department and Nghiem Xuan Tho, Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department.
The discussion is about the challenges for customs management in the context of deep integration; the initiative and coordination of the Customs officials to promptly detect smuggling and violations; the outstanding achievements of customs enforcement force; sharing difficulties, sacrifices, and the difficulties of customs officials and employees in anti-smuggling and trade fraud.
Session 2: Strong modernisation reform, facilitating commercial activities
With the participation of speakers: Mai Xuan Thanh, Deputy Director General of Vietnam Customs; Nguyen Manh Tung, Director of Customs IT and Statistics Department; Au Anh Tuan, Director of Customs Control and Supervision Department; Phung Thi Nguyen Hanh, Head of Customs Control and Supervision Department (Quang Ninh Customs Department) and Dam Minh Nghiep, Deputy Director of Hai Phong Port Area 3 Customs Branch (Hai Phong City Customs Department).
The contents of the discussion revolved around the reform and modernisation process of Vietnam Customs in the context of integration, with bold imprints in the field institutional reform; reform and innovation in technology application; lessons learned in local implementation, the contributions of the customs officials force.
