Customs to successfully complete tasks in 2024: Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi

In 2023, although significantly affected by the world situation, with the drastic direction of leaders at all levels, the General Department of Customs has made efforts to overcome difficulties to successfully complete assigned tasks. On behalf of the Party Committee and leaders of the Ministry of Finance, I acknowledge, appreciate and praise the efforts of all officers, civil servants, public employees and workers in the Customs sector. A typical contribution of the Customs sector is trade facilitation for import and export goods.

As the Standing Agency of Steering Committee 389 of the Ministry of Finance, the General Department of Customs has performed well the advisory to the leaders of the Ministry of Finance and coordination with ministries, central agencies and competent agencies; directed its units to seriously and effectively deploy many important measures to combat against crime and destroy many major drug smuggling cases.

The most obvious achievements of the Customs sector on this front are the results of seizing cases related to drugs, wildlife, prohibited goods... To get such great results, in addition to the efforts of the entire industry, the General Department of Customs has implemented very well the coordination work with relevant agencies, competent authorities and Customs agencies of countries around the world.

Along with that, the General Department of Customs has effectively implemented the National Single Window and ASEAN Single Window; actively reformed administrative procedures, applied information technology in customs clearance; ensured data management to standardize customs management and supervision processes to meet practical requirements.

In 2023, the General Department of Customs coordinated with the World Customs Organization (WCO) to successfully host the 2023 WCO Technology Conference and Exhibition. In addition, the General Department of Customs continues to proactively promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation activities to bring comprehensive results in performing assigned political tasks...

Regarding the implementation of tasks in 2024, the General Department of Customs must continue to strive and make more efforts in implementing key tasks.

The General Department of Customs needs to base on the tasks set out in the Customs Development Strategy to 2030 to develop plans and solutions. The overall goal is to build a regular, modern Vietnam Customs, on par with the Customs of developed countries in the world, leading in implementing digital Government, with a smart Customs model.

At the same time, the General Department of Customs continues to promote the implementation of trade facilitation tasks; effective customs management; actively improve the effectiveness of fight against smuggling and trade fraud.

In particular, the General Department of Customs notes solutions that need to be implemented such as: building a synchronous information technology system, advising on building policy mechanisms related to e-commerce, specialized inspection, and administrative procedure reform, National Single Window, grasping and offering solutions in case of the economy tending to recover. Furthermore, the Customs drastically implements State budget solutions from the first months of the year.

In 2024, the General Department of Customs needs to continue building a professional and modern Customs force; focus on leadership and direction to maintain discipline in performing public duties; improve professional capacity; ensure training and retraining of civil servants who possess both political integrity and professional competence.

In addition, the General Department of Customs needs to pay attention and carry out policy communication; organize information, communication and dialogue on procedures and policies; remove difficulties for the business community and people when carrying out procedures related to the customs field...

Based on the results achieved by the Customs sector in 2023, with the tasks and solutions set out, I believe that the General Department of Customs will complete and successfully complete the tasks in 2024 and the following years.
