Continue close cooperation between Vietnam and US Customs

At the meeting, Director General of Customs General Department Nguyen Van Can was happy and impressed with the Senior Executive Assistant Commissioner of the US Customs and Border Protection Agency and members of the working delegation who received invitation to Vietnam to attend the 2023 Technology Conference and Exhibition of the World Customs Organization (WCO), as well as visit and work with Vietnam Customs.
Director General Nguyen Van Can emphasized that in June 2022, the two countries' Customs signed a memorandum of understanding. Immediately afterward, the regional attaché representative in Thailand connected with Vietnam Customs and the US Embassy in Vietnam, and provided technical support and training to improve the quality of human resources for Vietnamese Customs officers.
“In the coming time, the two countries Customs will continue to cooperate on the basis of agreements and information exchange between the two Governments, especially as the two countries have upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Accordingly, the Customs of the two countries will have many discussions to continue to have cooperation programs in accordance with the Joint Declaration, as well as enhance the cooperative relationship between the two countries.
Also at the meeting, Ms. Debbie Seguin, Senior Executive Assistant Commissioner of the US Customs and Border Protection Agency was happy that the two countries' Customs had built an increasingly close and good relationship. At the same time, it was impressive for Vietnam Customs to host a major event of the WCO, thereby demonstrating the professional spirit of Vietnam Customs officers and civil servants.

“In recent times, the two countries' Customs have had many technical cooperation activities, as well as capacity building and information sharing. Wishing to continue listening to the plans of Vietnam Customs in the coming time to enhance the cooperative relationship between the two Customs agencies to become stronger and better, contributing to the comprehensive global Strategic Partnership between the two countries," Ms. Debbie Seguin emphasized.
Currently, the import and export of goods between Vietnam and the United States has grown significantly, especially Vietnam's export turnover to the United States by sea route.
At the meeting, Director General of Customs General Department Nguyen Van Can and Ms. Debbie Seguin, Senior Executive Assistant Commissioner of the US Customs and Border Protection Agency discussed and agreed on related contents to mutual recognition between the two countries' seaports, as well as mutual recognition between the two Customs authorities of the Authorized Economic Operator Program.
Along with that, cooperate in managing, exchanging, and sharing information for imported and exported goods packed in containers as Vietnam always supports US initiatives on maritime security and security against proliferating weapons of mass destruction, exchanging information, etc.
