According to Phuong, this is because China is strictly controlling the origin of imported agricultural products. Currently, dragon fruit exporters have printed Chinese characters on the packages at their production establishments, causing obstacles for the traceability and the inspection of origin for Vietnam's exported agricultural products.
This causes difficulties and prolongs the time taken to carry out import procedures for dragon fruit at the Chinese entry border gate, so only about 200 vehicles are implementing customs clearance per day.
In addition, the congestion is partly because it is harvest time, so there are 300 to 400 vehicles transporting dragon fruits to Lao Cai border gate for export to China. There are many vehicles but the procedures for inspection and supervision at the Chinese entry border gate take a long time causing the congestion of several hundred containers of dragon fruit at the border gate area, Phuong said.
In order to support dragon fruit exporters to China, Manager of Lao Cai Border Gate Customs Branch Phuong said that the Branch has facilitatedthe procedures for exporters. At the same time, they have increasing working hours of customs officers to quickly resolve procedures for exported dragon fruit for quick customs clearance.
The Customs and other competent forces at Kim Thanh Border Gate have instructed vehicles to avoid congestion and ensure traffic safety. Besides, assigning more officers to carry out customs procedures, plant quarantine to support enterprises for quick clearance.
The Lao Cai Border Gate Economic Department is also urgently working with the competent agencies of Ha Khau (China) to remove problems and ensure Vietnam's agricultural products that are eligible for export are cleared quickly.
Since the beginning of the year, this branch has cleared 481,000 tons of dragon fruits exported to Yunnan province, with a total export turnover of US$313 million.
