Build Digital Customs, Smart Customs and Green Customs: GDVC’s Director General Nguyen Van Can

Opening his speech, Director General Nguyen Van Can said that the 2023 WCO Technology Conference and Exhibition takes place on a very meaningful occasion the 30th anniversary of Vietnam Customs joining the WCO.
Over the past 30 years, Vietnam Customs has been associated with Vietnam's deep international integration process. Currently, Vietnam has trade relations with more than 200 countries and territories. Import-export turnover in 2022 reached reach more than US$732 billion, ranking in the group of 20 countries with the largest import-export turnover in the world.
“During the country's integration process, following the direction of the Government and the assistance of the WCO, especially the support from WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya, the WCO has connected members in bilateral cooperation, provided technical assistance to improve the building capacity of Vietnam Customs officers and promote customs reform and modernization process of Vietnam Customs", the Director General said.
Notably, over the past 30 years, Vietnam Customs has made a fundamental transformation from performing manual customs procedures to electronic customs and achieving the goal of paperless customs, ensuring the smooth movement of goods and the global supply chain, and security and safety for the community and national interests.
Under the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Finance, Vietnam Customs has deployed digital transformation in the direction of building professional, modern, and smart customs on par with developed countries in the world before 2030 in line with the goals set in the Customs Development Strategy by 2030.

To soon achieve the goal, Vietnam Customs hopes to continue to receive support from the WCO, Customs administrations, and partners in applying advanced technology and exchanging information to boost the development and movements of cargo in the world, ensuring security and community safety, and contributing to the development of the WCO members.
