VCN- According to preliminary information released by the General Department of Vietnam Customs recently, the total value of imports and exports reached $US 350.741 billion in 2016, including 5 exported commodity groups worth $US 10 billion or more.

The total value of imports and exports reached $US 350.741 billion in 2016.

In particular, the total value of exports reached $US 176.631 billion, an increase of 9% compared to 2015; and the total value of imports reached $US 174.11 billion, an increase of 5.2% compared to last year.

Thus, at the end of 2016, Vietnam maintained a trade surplus with the total value of $US 2.521 billion.

In field of exports, in 2016, in Vietnam, there were 24 commodity groups with a value of $US 1 billion on the list of 45 major exported commodity groups published by the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Notably, there were 5 exported commodity groups worth $US 10 billion or more, an increase of 1 commodity group compared to 2015.

The commodity group which has recently reached more than $US 10 billion is machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts with a value of $US 10.143 billion, an increase of 24.3% compared to 2015, equivalent to $US 1,984 billion.

In 5 major exported commodity groups, phones and accessories still holds the number one position with a total turnover of $US 34.317 billion, an increase of 13.8% compared to 2015. In particular, the turnover of this commodity group has been $US 10.5 billion higher than the commodity group at No. 2 as textiles (reached $US 23.841 billion, an increase of 4.6% compared to 2015).

The 2 other groups included: Computers, electronic products and components with a value of $US 18.959 billion, an increase of 21.5% compared to 2015; and footwear with a value of $US 13 billion, an increase of 8.3%.

Therefore, the 5 key exported commodity groups increased compared to 2015, and 3 commodity groups achieved a high growth rate of two numbers.

In the field of imports, there were 4 commodity groups worth $US 10 billion or more and there were no changes in quantity compared to 2015.

Specifically, the commodity groups worth $US 10 billion or more included: Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts with a value of $US 28.371 billion, an increase of 2.9% compared to 2015; computers, electronic products and components with a value of $US 27.874 billion, an increase of 20.5% compared to 2015; and telephones and components with a value of $US 10.559 billion, a decrease of 0.3% compared to 2015; and fabrics with a value of $US 10.482 billion, an increase of 3.2%.
