Thousands of enterprises “handle bad debts of hundreds of billions” at Hai Phong Customs Department

According to Hai Phong Customs Department, the total amount of bad debt is 995 billion VND as of 31/3/2018.

Notably, the bad debt has existed for many years. Typically, 232 billion VND of 464 enterprises occurred before 1/7/2007 (when the Law on Tax Administration came into effect); Or, in the period after 1/7/2007 to 2013, the debt amounted rose up to 690 billion VND of 790 enterprises.

It is known that bad tax debts at Hai Phong Customs Department focuses on taxpayers’ debts who have been investigated, prosecuted; taxpayers' debt "fled", "missing", do not do business at the registered address, have stopped or suspended business. The pending taxpayers have lodged complaints about the tax arrears which have not yet been paid under the decisions on collection and tax assessment by competent authorities.

Regarding the collection of recoverable tax debts, leaders of Hai Phong Customs Department have decided to assign a recovery target and are dealing with overdue tax debts over 90 days, overdue 90 days and late payment of the tax declarations incurred before 1/1/2018 in 10 branches with a total amount of nearly 51.44 billion VND.

In particular, there are 5 units that have to collect and handle debts of 1 billion or more, including: Post clearance audit department (24.112 billion VND); Dinh Vu Port Customs Branch (12,238 billion VND); Hai Phong port area 2 Customs Branch (7,194 billion); Hai Phong port area 3 Customs Branch (3.88 billion VND); The Investment and Processing Customs Branch (2,457 billion VND).

Branches under Hai Phong Customs Department that have less amount of tax debt, is Export processing zone (EPZ and Industrial Park (IP) Customs Branch, with the amount of tax collection and processed just over 9.3 million VND; Hung Yen Customs Department (nearly 200 million VND); Hai Duong Customs Branch (368.6 million VND); Thai Binh Customs Branch (452.3 million VND); Hai Phong port area 1 Customs Branch (527.6 million VND).
