VCN- Over 2.3 kg of drugs hidden in personal packages and sent from the US to Vietnam have been arrested by Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch on the first day of 2019.

On 2nd January 2019, the Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch under Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department said that the Branch has just arrested a shipment with a huge volume of drugs including narcotic plants, leaves and powered crystal substances with total weight of 2.3 kg, which was hidden in personal packages and sent from the US to Vietnam

The consignee is Mr. L.T.P, residing in Hong Bang District, Hai Phong City.

These drugs was put in plastic bags and then sophisticatedly hidden in gift packages as general cargo, clothes, and foods by an overseas Vietnamese who is named T.K, currently living in California (USA) to avoid the control of Customs authorities

Marijuana hidden inside clothes and personal effects

According to the leader of the Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch, the success of the case was due to following the key plan on strengthening control of drugs, especially marijuana from the United States to Vietnam.

In 2018, Tan Son Nhat Customs Branch has detected 65 cases of illegal transportation of marijuana, seized 79 kg of marijuana and coordinated to investigate more than 100 related perpetrators .

Currently, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch is cooperating with the competent authorities to expand the investigation and clarifying drug delivery lines from the US to Vietnam for handling in accordance with regulations.
