Violations via e-commerce in HCM City surges

Violations via e-commerce in HCM City  surges
120,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes are seized by HCM city Market Surveillance Department.

According to the HCMC Market Surveillance Department, in 2024, the Department collected more than VND100 billion (reaching 113.7% of the target, exceeding VND 12 billion). The value of confiscated goods awaiting processing is more than VND73.3 billion, up 37.52%, and the value of destroyed goods is more than VND60.4 billion, up 10.2%, compared to the same period in 2023.

Regarding gold jewelry, HCM City Market Surveillance Department has inspected and handled 326 violations (accounting for 6.72% of the total number of violations), the value of the violated goods is more than VND18.26 billion; fined are more than VND17.6 billion (accounting for 18.8% of the total fines).

Regarding cigarettes and e-cigarettes, HCM City Market Surveillance Department has inspected and handled 121 cases. Of which, many cases are large-scale, such as the case of transporting more than 120,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes in Cu Chi; detected more than 10,000 electronic cigarette products, with a total value of more than VND3.7 billion in District 1 and Tan Phu District.

Regarding e-commerce activities, HCM City Market Surveillance inspected and handled 379 violations, up 392.2% compared to 2023 and accounting for 7.82% of the total number of violations, with the value of infringing goods of more than VND8.6 billion, up 1,128.57%; and the fines worth more than VND7.6 billion, up 300%, compared to the same period in 2023.

Regarding goods of unknown origin, the department inspected and handled 2,215 violations, up 39.98% compared to the same period in 2023 and accounting for 45.7% of the total number of violations; with the total value of violated goods of more than VND89.9 billion; imposed fines of more than VND44.1 billion, accounting for 47.62% of the total fines.
